Year 2 have been busy working on collage in Art this week. They have learnt about overlapping and over layering. Today we created our final pieces of work.

Some of the children and staff attended the Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph in Ulverston last Sunday afternoon. This is an important service and we value being part of it. Eva Evans laid a wreath with her brother Daniel as part of the Scouts group. Tess Branton and Sophie O’Neill laid the wreath on behalf of Sir John Barrow School. Thank you to all those involved.

We had 2 brilliant victories in the cross country today as well as a host of 2nd and 3rd places.
We had runners taking part in their first event today. Nobody stopped and nobody gave up. We are delighted with how you raced.
A special mention to the children who ran in races with children who were older than they are. Coming 2nd and 1st in a race with older children is amazing!!

4 of our Year 6 pupils went to Barrow today for the School Games cycling event.
We have never participated in this event but you wouldn’t have know it.
The children cycled superbly. They all got a PB and won both of the relay races!!!
Excellent work Year 6. Sport is back!!!

Once again a huge thank you on behalf of Year 4 for donating to the ‘Boxes of Hope’ charity, which sees shoeboxes filled with such nice things safely delivered to some of Europe’s poorest children in Romania. A very special thank you to Sophie in Year 5 for knitting an amazing number of super hats for our boxes, we really are so VERY grateful, Sophie. You are amazing. Our Year 4 pupils had a lovely time wrapping the shoeboxes and filling them with ‘goodies’ so kindly funded by the wider SJB community. Most important of all we made sure to pack lots of love in to our boxes.
Year 2 have been looking at materials in their Science work this term. Today we tested which materials are absorbent and which are not.

Some children learning phonics may come home with stickers stuck onto them upside down! This is so the child can practice reading the word or phoneme and they can see it easily. It is upside down so they can look down and glance at it repeatedly. Ask your child what does the word or phoneme say? Get them to read it over and over again. When adults in school spot a child with a sticker they ask them what the word or phoneme says. Here are some of Year 1 looking fabulous modelling their stickers! 🌟

Using white card and a light meter to investigate reflective materials.

Some of our boxes are looking a bit sad. Please could you all return reading books that you are not using?

Investigating the visible spectrum. Splitting white light.
