This week we have loved getting stuck into our geography project – reading four and six figure grid references.

In maths we have been getting our heads around the properties of irregular and regular polygons. We are very proud of our hard work!

It’s been lovely getting out in between the rain showers and running our daily mile! We are definitely getting faster and steadier.

In English we have started looking at The Highwayman. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for our dramatic rewrites!

In the week leading up to half term, Nursery enjoyed making Gruffalo crumble. We started by peeling and chopping the fruit. Then we weighed the flour, sugar and butter to make the crumble. The delicious smell that came from the oven made our tummies rumble all morning.
Finally, in the afternoon, we got to taste our yummy crumble! It was delicious😋

Over the last couple of days we have looked at the work of Georgina Bown. She works in the North of England and specialises in nautical themes.

We then investigated mono-printing: designing, practising and completing a final piece.

Nursery loved exploring the new EYFS climbing frame. It’s great for building upper body strength, getting the children ready for writing.

We were delighted to welcome back some of our ‘Brightstars’ from last year.

Our Brightstars project made a profit and the children decided to donate part of that to the hospice. The remainder will be used for the garden next year.

A big thank you to all who came and also to all of the children who worked so hard last year.

We had a lovely afternoon, last Friday, sharing poems with parents and carers. Thank you to everyone who came along.

A huge thank you also to Mr Richardson’s family for their continued support.

This week we have had a tidy up of our bookcase and added lots of new exciting titles! Our firm favourites are Goosebumps, Dog Man and Spider-Man comics.

We have been enjoying composing using samples on the GarageBand app in music. We definitely have some budding DJs in the school!! 🎶🎵

We also as part of music have been looking at the band Public Service Broadcasting. They use samples from historical speeches and advertisements and compose a piece of music to go with it. One piece they composed is called ‘Night Mail’ using the poem Night Mail by W.H.Auden. We then learnt and performed the poem as part of our poetry celebration on Friday.

Now the children deserve a lovely half term. They’ve worked incredibly hard!

The Eco Committee welcomed Martha and Carrick this week as our new Year 1 representatives. They’ve all been busy planning an assembly for after half term to update the rest of the school on their work so far this year.

Well done to our dodgeball team for winning 3 of their games and drawing 1 games yesterday.

This was our first ever dodgeball tournament and we are delighted with the team’s effort and behaviour.

They all came back form Furness College in a very good mood and they all thought they had played their 4 games very well.
