Year two were busy this morning during their first Big Write of the year. They had to retell the story of ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ that they had been learning in English.

Over the summer we have been able invest in a whole new scheme for teaching phonics. There will be new books, flash cards and posters. There is also a website and parents can access resources. We sent the link to some help videos yesterday.

All of this is possible thanks to the incredible efforts of Mr and Mrs Cook, Joseph and Noah and Mr Maher. Their donation to school has allowed to completely revamp our reading scheme. Many thanks!

A number of SJB pupils enjoyed the end of season celebration at Ulverston Cricket Club yesterday. Many came away with awards for their efforts over the season.

The ‘Rockets’ (girls softball, 8 years and over) did particularly well with Matilda winning the batting award, Tess took the bowling award and Lucy claimed the fielding award. Daisy won the title of most improved player for the Rockets and Mrs Branton took the same award for the ‘Comets’ (ladies softball).

Well done to all the ‘Allstars’ (under 8 boys and girls) and all the ‘Dynamos’ (8-11 boys and girls) who all took home medals.

In Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 we will be handing out reading books by the end of next week once we have assessed the children’s phonics.

We are changing our approach to reading at home – watch this space for more information.
