Eco-Committee

The newly formed eco committee had their first meeting in school today. They went to work straight away preparing and delivering new recycling boxes to every class. Now a range of things can be recycled in class, not just paper.

The eco committee consists of two children each from years 1 to 6 and they were full of ideas such as building more bee and bug hotels for the wildlife area and fundraising for tree planting. Izzy from year 5 took the minutes superbly.

They have been set two challenges for the Easter holidays which any one can have a go at too! The first is to do some litter picking ready for doing some in the school playground soon. Areas they plan to go to include the beach, the park, the Rope Walk, and their own street. The second is to learn to identify more trees by using their blossom. They have a spotter sheet to help which can be downloaded for free from the Woodland Trust website. How many can you spot? https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2020/03/tree-id-kids/

Huge Congratulations – we are so proud …

of all the children who took part in South Cumbria Music Festival yesterday. Everyone has worked so hard over the last few weeks. It has required dedication and courage to learn the words (there were a lot!) and to get up on stage. The children had to make a massive effort to remember all the instructions they had been given especially as we had never managed to rehearse with the full choir. We were delighted by the adjudicator’s comments to each child and the whole group.

Special mention to Ame in Year 6 for 1st Place in the Prepared Reading and Poetry Own Choice classes, to Daisy in Year 5 for 3rd Place in the Prepared Reading class, to Felix and Meisha in Year 4 for 1st and 2nd place in the Poetry Own Choice class and finally to Jack and Jack in Year 3 for 1st and 2nd Place in the poetry Own Choice class.

We were very proud to hear that the Speaking Choir was awarded the Kimberley-Clark Bursary for Choral Speaking.

Many thanks to parents and carers who spent hours perfecting the performances.

Ulverston Eco Fair

The SJB Eco-Committee had a great afternoon at the Coronation Hall today. Amongst the numerous activities on offer we found out how to make compost, made a smoothie using our own energy and completed a quiz all about British wildlife.

Well done to our super swimmers

12 of our swimmers were in action today at Barrow Pool. They all came back looking extremely pleased with themselves and we know we came second and first in a number of our heats. Results will be in soon.
