Year 5 Weekly Roundup!

We’ve had a very busy week in year 5. In English we have been writing a balanced argument based on our story book ‘The Midnight Fox’. The children have worked very hard finding points for both sides of the argument and writing formal paragraphs.

In Science we have looked at the entomologist Maria Sibylla Merian. She studied the life cycle of insects in the late 1600s. We found her story fascinating as her job was very dangerous back then as she could have been accused of being a witch!

In History we have carried on with our Mayan topic. This week we compared the Mayan civilisation to the Anglo Saxons in our books. On craft Friday we made Mayan masks, Mayan ojos de dios and Anglo Saxon brooches.

Well done Noah!

Congratulations to Noah who ran 5km in sub 20 minutes yesterday.

That is an outstanding time for anybody let alone someone in primary school.

You should be proud of yourself Noah.

Lantern Procession

The SJB community thoroughly enjoyed being part of this local event again this year. Thank you to our team of pupils past and present, families and staff for joining us on a memorable journey through the jam packed streets of Ulverston! Huge thanks to Mrs O’Connor and Mrs Barker for their hard work constructing our ‘bowler hat’ lantern to represent local legend Stan Laurel as our contribution to the ‘On the Screen’ theme.
