Well done to our 4 tennis players who competed at UVHS.
They all showed improvement and their scores will certainly help us in the UVHS sport standings.

Year 2 have finished off their printing unit of work by making a natural print inspired two artists we have been learning about. 🎨

Book Week 2023
Welcome to Book Week 2023. This year we are looking forward to a packed programme of events. Book Week is straight after half term so time to get busy!
Monday – Wednesday
Teachers are planning lots of story and poetry related activities in class. Check in with your children to find out what they have been up to.
Tuesday 28th February: Book Sale and Swap (after school)
Bring in your preloved books. You can either swap them for another book or donate them to the sale. The school council is organising this event and profits will go towards our new playground.
World Book Day Vouchers
Each child in school will receive a £1 voucher for World Book Day on Thursday. These can be used towards the cost of any book or for a £1 book. Please could we ask you to support local bookshops or our Usborne Book fair.
Fancy Dress Competition: Thursday 2nd March (Morning)
Please send your child dressed in their costume. We can help with last minute adjustments but do not have time to dress a full class! Group entries are allowed however, the prizes will be shared. Please make sure your child is wearing a ‘base-layer’ that they can wear later if they are uncomfortable. Alternatively, they can bring school uniform to change into.
(Nursery Children who attend in the afternoon, may still dress up in their costumes)
Reading Competition Final: Thursday 2nd March 1:30pm (Rec to Yr 6)
The school will gather to listen to the finalists in the reading competition.
Reading Safari: Friday 3rd March (Afternoon)
Teachers, sports coaches and volunteers will be reading stories around the school. The children will set off on safari after lunch. Please contact school if you would like to take part. You can travel with a group or tell a story – fancy dress is optional.
Usborne Books Sale: Friday 3rd March (after school)
There will be a range of new Usborne Books for sale in school after school on Friday. Children will have the opportunity to browse the book fair during the afternoon.
Year 1 have had a brilliant time this afternoon at the Parish Church singing with other schools. We sang a song called ‘cow for sale’ from the musical Jack and the Beanstalk.

Nine schools competed in the Panatholon today. More schools will be competing later and tomorrow. SJB were the first ones to get the MAX (40 points) in the volleyball game.
Other games included basketball, botcha, beanbags and skittles. There were two Alfie’s in the SJB team as well as Perdi, Alexander, Daniel, Heidi and Ella.
We all had lots of fun in all of the games. Each team was represented by a colour and the colour for SJB was green.
Volleyball was hard because you had to pass a ball from one person to another without touching the green board in the middle.
It was a long 40 ride to Furness College but it was definitely worth it.
Thank you for your report Anna!
Please take a look at Robyn’s cross country report if you haven’t already.
Well done to our group of eight KS2 children who represented SJB so well at the School Games Panatholon.
Our teachers were very pleased with your behaviour and your volley bat skills.

A new Eco Committee has recently been elected by their classmates. The 12 pupils from year 1 to 6 will be in their roles from now until the end of the school year. They are working towards SJB gaining official Eco School status which is a global initiative involving more than 50,000 schools.
The new committee have been finishing the Environmental Review of the school that the last group had been working on and have specifically been looking at water use. This week they made posters to be displayed around school giving water saving tips. Here are some of their favourites:
They also learnt that using less water also helps with climate change as the water companies can use less energy to collect, clean, and supply the water to their houses.

Reception Class have been learning about how Chinese New Year is celebrated across the world. They made a dragon using loose parts, but don’t worry, it was very friendly 😀

A big thank you to Miss Porter and Miss Shepherd for providing our tasty toast.
