This week year 1 have been learning lots about plants. In English we started the week by finding out all the features of information texts. We then researched some fascinating facts about plants to help us write some information texts. One of our favourite facts was that plants are used in shampoos! Today, we have been superb scientists! We have each planted a bean plant. We have also learned the names of some wild and garden flowers. We then chose some flowers to carefully and precisely draw in our sketch books. Please take a look at some of our drawings.

We tested our homemade printing blocks today.

We also used other objects to print with to create images of Varjak or the toy mouse sitting on the wall.

We are investigating using newspaper and card to illustrate Skellig.

Using multilink to explain volume.

We had an interesting afternoon working on Philosophy 4 Children.

The warm up was great fun and the enquiry and discussion were brilliant.

Well done to everyone for their Caring, Collaborative, Critical and Creative thinking.

Only one week to go ….

4 of our children went to Hoops today to play 4 games of tennis against all the Furness Schools.

We sent the children hoping they might win the odd game and have fun. They came back very pleased with themselves as they had exceeded expectations.

3/4 tennis and the athletics finals are still to come this term.

18 children from SJB went to Craven Park today to watch Barrow Raiders against Coventry. All the kids went free of charge and the Raiders Community Team looked after us very well.

The kids went out with the flag before the game, played tag rugby at half time and met some of the players at full time.

The weather was changeable but we had a great time and we look forward to more visits to Craven Park.

Year 1 have looked absolutely fantastic dressed up as lots of different characters for World Book Day!
