Stone Mason’s visit to the Reception Class.

Henry’s dad, David Lamb, came into school today to tell us all about his job. He showed us pictures of the stone carvings he has done. First he starts off with a drawing, then he makes a model out of clay. Once he’s happy with how it looks, he then starts to carve the stone using chisels and a tool called a ‘dummy’. David let children have a go at carving stone themselves. They absolutely loved experiencing it first hand but decided it was a very tricky job. Their favourite of David’s stone carvings were the some on York Minster, a lion and a king with big beards and their bum in the air! 😀
