Year 6 followed Year 5 by making their mallets today.
They made a stool last year but had clearly remembered the skills and safety points Mr Maher had taught them.
Many of them had started whittling their handle in the space of an hour and their confidence as a group was the best we have seen in the three years we have been doing woodwork.
Year 6 will be doing lots more Outdoor Education with Year 1 in the spring term. We see no reason why they cannot begin teaching them how to use the tools.
There is a picture on our website of three boys doing Forest Schools when they were in Year 4. We tried to recreate this picture today (shown below) but a few angles and hair cuts may have changed. Harry, Reece and Jacob will be able to tell Mr Maher tomorrow if it looks similar.
A massive thank you to Mr Fellows who joined us for two days with Year 5 and 6. We could not do this as a whole class without two adults present.
