11 pupils from Year 5 and 6 went to UVHS on Wednesday to take part in a rugby competition with 9 other teams. The children played in 7 matches and won 6 of them. They combined skill with speed and looked like a professional side at times. One of the players did not know she was playing until about 5 minutes before we left and became an integral part of the team.
Mr Maher called his brother, who plays professional Rugby League, immediately after the final whistle and told him the result. He was very impressed with the group; he started his career in Ulverston not too long ago.
There were many highlights from the afternoon and many superb tries were scored. The younger members of the team in particular stood out and will prove invaluable next year.
Well done to all the other teams who took part. There are some outstanding players in the area. One of the girls from Burlington School was absolutely phenomenal.
