Year 5 Viking Day

Year 5 had a visitor from a Viking Warrior on Monday.

Our history topic for this term is The Vikings so Year 5 dressed up and learnt about: weapons, family life, Viking games and drawing and describing artefacts.

The children were taught about all Viking weapons in the morning: sword, axe, Dane axe, spear and arrows. The Shield Wall experience outside was a great way to demonstrate battle formations and also allowed the children to work as a team. By the narrowest of margins, the boys defeated the girls (but only by the will of the gods).

The children all loved playing Viking games in the afternoon and then were able to explore all the artefacts which our warrior had brought in.

Maths and science links were made throughout the day by way of angles, levers and forces. Year 5 will us these examples in later lessons.

Many thanks to Bjarni Thorvaldrson of www.sveducationalservices.org . Your enthusiasm and knowledge is much appreciated. GREAT DAY!
