Following the French Café from last week, Year 5 rolled up their sleeves and made scones on Wednesday afternoon.

They had already written instruction for scone making in English and solved problems in maths (it is amazing how many word problems can be written involving scones).

After cleaning all the work surfaces, they weighed all the ingredients: flour, butter, sugar and salt. They added sultanas if they wanted a fruit scone.

Adding the milk proved to be very exciting for a number of children. Most people find it is best to add milk a little bit at time. The “all in one” method usually backfires!

Another key lesson learnt by Year 5 was that flour is usually best kept on the table.

They each took home two scones to place in the oven.
