Year 1 and Year 5 joined forces on Friday to do Forest Schools.
With the wind getting stronger by the minute and rain becoming very heavy at times, the two year groups worked throughout the morning undeterred.
Year 5 showed Year 1 how to use a mallet and helped identify several trees in the SJB playground: ash, sycamore, horse chestnut, hazel and silver birch.
They created outlines of each other using wood and then had a go at creating arrows out of the same wood in order to locate their partners.
Year 5 continued in the afternoon using all the tools from the SJB store: bow saw, sheath knife, loppers and bill hooks. They remembered the safety rules very well from November and could be trusted to work with all the tools in different areas.
The class now have most of the skills they need to make a stool when they move into Year 6.
